Welcome

Chirnside Park Community Centre Inc. is a non-profit organisation providing a cost effective range of personal / family support services and enrichment classes to the local community and the extended community of interest. Tthe organisation began as the Chirnside Park Progress Association, which was conceived approximately 25 years ago, with meetings held in various locations. The Centre, now located in the residential area of Chirnside Park, was built in 1983 by the Shire of Lillydale (now known as the Shire of Yarra Ranges). Thus the Chirnside Park Community Centre began as an organisation, and later became C.P.C.C.Inc. The Shire owns the building, but operations and maintenance are sustained by a volunteer Committee of Management.

Today the Centre offers approximately 40 programs, including playgroups, occasional childcare and family support services, personal development, health and wellness courses, practical skills and recreational groups. We service approximately 770 people annually. The main participant base is in the middle aged category, with an increasing focus on young families. We are on the eve of an exciting new future, with a $150,000 Capital Works Grant – recently announced by the Shire of Yarra Ranges, the main focus being a Maternal and Child Health Service. However, this will help as a ‘marketing springboard’ to the centre, build community interest and focus and cater to the diverse and emerging needs of the community, as identified by a major needs analysis.

The Centre has a mix of age levels, ranging from young families (and their pre-schoolers) through to the senior citizen category. The participants are predominantly Caucasian and female and from a range of employment and income levels. There are not any obvious changes to our client base to reflect a multicultural Australia, nor are enrolments reflecting the diverse social issues of today’s society.

Chirnside Park Community Centre offers programs in the following broad areas:

  • Childcare and Child Centred Activities

  • Recreational Activities

  • Personal Development

  • Health and Wellness

  • Support Groups

  • Volunteer Programs
